Tennis Development through Structured Programming

At SWC JAWS, we are committed to supporting tennis development across all ages and levels through structured programming, education, and community partnerships at our tennis & pickleball center. Our goal is to provide an environment where players develop strong fundamentals, confidence, and a healthy, long-term relationship with the sport.

As part of this mission, SWC JAWS collaborates with experienced coaches and development programs that emphasize integrity, consistency, and athlete-centered growth.

Development Partner: MO Tennis Training

MO Tennis Training is a tennis development academy operating in partnership with the Tennis & Pickleball Center at SWC JAWS in Chula Vista. The academy provides structured, long-term tennis development for juniors and adults across a wide range of levels — from beginners learning the fundamentals to competitive and high-performance athletes refining their game.

While MO Tennis Training works with players at many stages, its primary focus is development: building strong technical foundations, confidence, and consistency through thoughtful progression rather than short-term results. Programs are designed to be structured, supportive, and age-appropriate, with an emphasis on creating positive training environments that encourage long-term engagement in the sport.

Coaching Philosophy

The philosophy of MO Tennis Training is rooted in lived experience, empathy, and structure.

  • Strong technical foundation
  • Clear, progressive development pathways
  • Mental resilience and confidence
  • Accountability and work ethic
  • Respect for each athlete’s individual goals and pace of growth

The academy recognizes that tennis development is not linear. Athletes experience growth, plateaus, pressure, and setbacks at different stages. Effective coaching requires not only technical knowledge, but an understanding of the emotional and mental challenges athletes face as they learn, compete, and grow.

This approach creates an environment where players feel supported and challenged and where parents can feel confident that their children are being guided with care, professionalism, and long-term perspective.

About the Tennis Coach

MO Tennis Training is led by Michelle Okhremchuk, a former Division I collegiate tennis player and experienced coach with a strong background in junior development, adult programming, and collegiate athletics.

Michelle competed at the Division I level, playing in the No. 1 position for all four years for University of Nevada, Reno and graduating as the all-time leader in match wins in university history. Her experience as a top collegiate athlete provides a deep understanding of the discipline, commitment, and sacrifice required to compete at a high level.

Following her playing career, Michelle transitioned into coaching with a development-first mindset shaped by her firsthand experience as an athlete. Having navigated the pressures, expectations, and challenges of competitive tennis herself, she brings a high level of empathy and understanding to her coaching, particularly when working with young athletes and their families.

Michelle currently serves as the Head Coach of the Women’s Tennis Program at Southwestern College, where she leads program development, supports student-athletes, and oversees competitive preparation within an education-based athletic environment.

Her coaching philosophy emphasizes trust, communication, and consistency, creating an environment where athletes and parents feel supported, informed, and confident in the development process.
